This venue will house the activities of the Silambam Houston Arts Academy - focused on providing quality, affordable, Indian classical arts education and outreach Silambam Houston Dance Company - which uses classical Indian dance vocabulary to interpret and communicate themes of contemporary relevance. In the last two years, Silambam Houston has experienced huge growth, fueled by its unique artistic vision and its reputation for high standards. The dance company and arts academy currently rent studio space for classes and rehearsals. With the unprecedented growth, space has become a major issue; faculty members currently face the challenge of teaching three to four separate classes in a single studio space, divided partially by a movable partition.
The new facility will accommodate up to seven classes and rehearsals at a time, allowing us to continue our growth trajectory and offer classes in more Indian classical arts disciplines, in addition to providing much needed storage space for props, costumes, and teaching materials. The facility is being designed innovatively, and will easily convert to a black-box style performance space – a venue that will be a wonderful addition to the South Houston/Pearland/Friendswood/Clearlake area.
